Automated Thermostat Assembly
Pictured is an automatic assembly machine for use in the manufacture of thermostats. The machine carries out the first stage of the assembly process, loading and riveting two brass eyelet's into a phenolic moulded base. Running at rate of 1,800 components per hour, the machine is based around a ten position rotary indexing table around which is placed a number of pneumatic pick and place stations and two eyelet riveting stations. Thermostat bases and two sizes of eyelet
are bowl fed into the machine with the machine placing the bases onto riveting anvils in the correct orientation, feeding each eyelet into the hole in the bases then riveting the eyelet's in place prior to delivering them into a completed parts bin. The machine was designed to replace an existing semi-automatic process which could at best produce 1000 parts per hour with an operator being required to load the bases manually.
